Creative Forces

Creative Forces: NEA Military Healing Arts Network brings healing arts to service members, veterans, and their families through a standardized Creative Arts Therapies program in 12 medical treatment facilities across the nation, and support for therapeutic arts engagement in community settings. The program includes research on the impact of creative arts therapies and how they can be deployed to greater impact.

Florida is fortunate to have two of the 12 sites: James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa and North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System in Gainesville. These sites provide creative arts therapies for service members, veterans and families dealing with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Since the NEA’s launch of Creative Forces in Florida in 2017, the Division of Arts and Culture continues to support clinic to community engagement programs with various arts and culture organizations.  The goal of these programs is to continue relationships between arts and culture organizations and military populations.  Keeping in mind that the arts in non-clinical settings are not therapy but can be therapeutic.

The Division believes that using arts and creativity in the military helps promote health and wellbeing and can grow into something unimaginably important and useful for some of Florida’s most deserving citizens.
