The Armory Art Center is a nonprofit organization committed to providing exceptional visual and hands-on arts education center that offers experiences for our diverse community at all levels. We are growth-oriented and passionate about what we do.

Our VISION: is to become a leading artistic and cultural center.

Housed in a historic art deco building, the Armory Art Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides art classes for artists of all ages and abilities, exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. Nearly 100 courses, held in 12 state-of-the-art studios, are offered each year in ceramics, digital arts, drawing, jewelry, painting, printmaking, fibers, sculpture, welding, and wood turning.

Over the past three decades, the Armory Art Center has:

taught art classes to thousands of emerging artists of all ages and cultures,
exhibited art in hundreds of shows,
given workshops taught by national and international visiting master artists,
provided summer art camp for thousands of young people, and
given new artists-in-residents from around the United States and abroad the opportunity to hone their craft while teaching classes.
The Armory looks to a long future of enhancing artistic life in the Palm Beaches and is seeking a dynamic Advancement Director to support our growth.

Now, about the Role

This position will be a visionary team leader who will guide and manage a small Development Department. Key Responsibilities include leading the direction, planning, and execution of development, grants, and special events to expand the Armory’s audience and maximize revenue in support of the Armory’s strategic plan. As the lead fundraiser for the Armory, and in anticipation of a near future capital campaign, the Advancement Director will partner with the CEO and members of the Board and its Committees to grow total contributed income, particularly major gifts.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience researching, identifying, and cultivating relationships, which lead to increased organization funding.
Grant writing experience with a proven track record and experience securing individual gifts.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to be self-directed and highly motivated.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to engage in positive, productive, and collaborative communications with team members, executive staff, patrons, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Serve as the primary Armory liaison to the Development Committees of the Board of Trustees.

The successful candidate will possess a high degree of creativity, energy, and initiative, as well as the capacity to inspire and motivate staff, donors, prospects, board members, and volunteers. The Advancement Director will create a culture of excellence throughout the Development and will possess the following characteristics:

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Arts Administration, Nonprofit management, Social sciences, Financial management or a related field, or equivalent experience- advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of five years of development experience is preferred.
Experience working in a Visual Arts Center or other cultural arts organizations is a plus.
Prior management experience and/or supervisory experience.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Illustrator, and InDesign helpful.
A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
A passion for the visual arts is essential.
Must work onsite at the Armory Art Center location and other sites as needed.
Some night and weekend work required.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Job duties and responsibilities are commensurate with what one would expect an Advancement Director or development professional's job responsibilities are. Candidates selected for an initial interview will receive a full job description prior to their interview.

Salary and Benefits

The Advancement Director offers a yearly salary range of $60,000 to $70,000- commensurate with skills and experience. In addition, a generous benefits package that includes 70/30 Health, Dental, and Eye insurance benefit, a Simple IRA plan with Company match (up to 3%) after conditions are met, paid vacation accrued during the first year that increases over time, and paid sick/family leave accrued. This position is a full-time (40+ hours per week), exempt position.
